It is a very large masthead placed directly at the top of the page instantly grabbing the readers attention. As the colour of the masthead is bright red it also adds to the attention grabbing front cover. Red as a colour has connotations to passion, strength and also sensuality. This appropriately matches the content within the magazine for their male audience. The serif font gives the magazine a more elegant and sophisticated touch and makes the font bigger and more stereotypically manly.
Mode of address
Men's Health uses a direct mode of address which establishes a strong connection to the reader which can make them more likely to buy the magazine.
This can be seen in the main image because the reader is being looked directly into the eyes which can transmit confidence to them.
The mode of address is also included in the tag line for example the use of inclusive pronouns such as "your" this
